To help people understand more about traditional handicraft techniques, we hold basket weaving workshops frequently for both adults and children.
At first, our purpose is to create time where people can gather to talk about handmade things and to relax.
However, each time when holding a workshop, we can share a lot of stories together.
Vietnam has a long history of handicrafts. With various skills, our talented ancestors can weave by hand very well. Hundreds of years ago, Vietnamese people can make baskets, trays, for daily using by themselves from bamboo, rattan, seagrass, etc.
However, due to industrialization recently as well as cheap plastic products can be found everywhere, a big impact to handcrafted products caused traditional craft villages especially are in danger of disappearing.
Therefore, during the workshop we share our knowledge about traditional handicraft techniques of Vietnamese people. Then we discussed the importance of preserving traditional handicrafts.
The instructor taught attendants many techniques from the beginning step to finishing step of weaving a basket then attendants can weave their own basket.
Through making a basket, attendants can understand how difficult it is to complete a handmade product. They can understand the value of handcrafted products and treasure them more.
It was very great to spend meaningful time creating items and chatting to others.
